I have always cringed on this question.
Yes, yes…I know what you are thinking… I should be flattered. I should be happy someone wants to be like me. I should be humbled that someone messaged me enough to ask how they can be like me. AND I AM! I am definitely flattered and humbled because I find it inspiring. I find it inspiring that people see me as “The Standard.”
I’m glad I can share my story, experiences and whatever I know to people and they somehow find it inspiring. Here’s is the big confession though, I don’t find myself as inspiring. I always see myself as a work in progress where there is always room for corrections and improvement. I always believe and know for a fact that there is a gazillion of things out there that I don’t know yet and there are a lot more things that I can discover and learn.

So what do I say, when this question is asked?
I say… Be better.
Or more specifically, I say, Be better than me. Do not make me the goal instead make your goal beyond me so you will be able to learn more and know more and experience more. And when you get there, you too would be able to share your own uniqueness to the world.
Another tip? Know your weaknesses so you can highlight your strengths.
I might have confused you with that statement but knowing what you are not good at will make you value the things that you are good at. Like maybe you are not good with numbers but you are good with words so you can offer that as a service and be a writer and inspire people with your words! Or maybe you are not very good with writing emails but you are very good with answering calls so maybe you can offer that and be the best customer service representative for your client’s business.
Will be leaving this quote for all of you to think about…
“I’m no more ashamed of my weaknesses. The more you embrace them, the more you free up your energy and time to focus on your strengths…” ― Assegid Habtewold
PS. It’s good to have people that inspire you. I feel that it gives you the drive to be something. And as for me, I want you to be better. Be better than me and anyone else. 🙂
